RESEARCH INTERESTS
Evolutionary medicine, origins and evolution of virulence and resistance, co-evolution of hominids and microbes, genomics

CURRENT PROJECTS
In collaboration with New York University Medical School's Microbiome group, I am working on the analysis of the gut microbiome of howler monkeys. We are interested in how the gut microbiome changes with age and the impact of diet on the microbiota.

I'm also conducting phylogenomic analysis on isolates of the Middle East Respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) to examine the degree of relatedness and host-switching events
